Cartier Reinvents Classic Santos Timepiece
French luxury goods makers Cartier has taken a step back in time – in order to take two steps forward.
The iconic brand has returned to its renowned Santos timepiece first created in 1903 and redesigned it with a brand new range of watches based on the classic piece.
The square watch has been reissued in two sizes, and are available in several options including stainless steel, steel and yellow gold, pink gold, and yellow gold. The larger version is also available as a pink gold or steel skeletonized watch.
Inside, an automatic caliber 1847 MC powers the watch, while on the outside roman numerals and distinctive screw details on the bezel give the piece an old-school feel.
Cartier has also introduced an easier way to change bracelets, meaning that if you buy two or three different straps, you can give the watch a different look each time you wear it.
Additionally the brand has incorporated SmartLinks which means you can easily change links on your own at home.
Pricing for the new Santos collection ranges from $6,250 for a medium case in stainless steel to $60,000 for the skeletonized pink gold large case version.
In 2004 Cartier redesigned the Santos to mark the watch’s 100th anniversary.
