Cartier Reimagines Classic Wristwatches Ahead of SIHH 2018

With just over a month to go before the 2018 edition of the SIHH watch fair, legendary French jewellery house Cartier has unveiled teasers of some of the pieces it will showcase at the prestigious Switzerland event.

Among them are updates of some of the brand’s most classic and cherished timepieces, featuring the distinctive oval-shaped dial that appeared in Cartier’s Baignoire watch and deconstructed for the iconic Crash.

Reimagined for the brand’s Libre collection, the five new watches include the Baignoire Débordante, boasting a slender and fanciful take on the simple oval dial watch sees the watch face surrounded by detailed “petals” that are dotted with precious stones. The white gold case is set with diamonds and black spinels and only 50 such watches have been created.

The Baignoire Infinie, meanwhile, is set apart by the hypnotic design on the case made up of baguette-cut diamonds, white mother-of-pearl, Tahitian mother-of-pearl, and black spinels. Three rows of paved gemstones surround a tiny dial that is barely there. The Baignoire Infinie is limited to 20 pieces.

Also featuring is the Baignoire Etoilée, another watch characterised by form rather than function, and coming with a bracelet that is a constellation of diamonds and black spinels. A total of 15 such watches have been produced.

Founded by Louis-François Cartier in Paris in 1847, Cartier has grown to become one of the world’s most illustrious luxury brands.

SIHH 2018 will run from 15 – 19 January.
